Book design

A project deeply personal to me, Ashura is a book designed to document and explain the practices and traditions of the Shia community in the Indian subcontinent. The project combines research, storytelling, and illustration to create a visual narrative that respectfully represents the culture and significance of these practices.
A distinctive illustration style was developed for the book, with colour used intentionally and selectively to highlight important moments, emotions, and rituals throughout the narrative. The illustrated figures are intentionally minimal and without individual detail, representing the community collectively rather than focusing on specific individuals. This approach helps emphasise shared identity, tradition, and experience.
The project balances cultural sensitivity with thoughtful visual design, using illustration and layout to create an engaging and meaningful reading experience.|
